One of our favourite finds and subsequent projects was our little Lodge house. This poor little house failed to sell at auction and was feeling particularly unloved both in its condition and the fact no one wanted it. It was due to be put under the hammer again when Klare spotted the huge potential.

It was a former lodge house to the manor house behind and the land adjoining had been sold to a large developer to turn the area into new flats and housing. The advert showed a 2-bedroom property with only a front view photo. A property this small would not normally interest us but it became clear on the floor plan that the living space was huge and poorly laid out. We realized with a bit of internal reconfiguration we could make 5 good-sized rooms around a central communal area. There was a small off street parking area, which would be invaluable in the city. With this we dug into the bank to increase the parking spaces and then put electric gates on to secure the house and give a safe environment for our tenants.

Of course this property being on a main road with little true garden didn’t fit a dream home for a family but for our tenants it provides a cosy characterful boutique bolthole in the city after a hard days work. For our team it was a great good value find that just needed some lateral thinking to see the underlying commercial potential. A rare unique find and a true strawberry property.
